The literature is overflowing with scientific articles. Critical appraisal is a systematic process used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a research article in order to assess the usefulness and validity of research findings. After selecting an article, you must be able to sit with the article and critically appraise it. This session will help you to analyse any original study in a simple systematic approach that you can use when presenting an article at your academic day, journal club or read for your patient.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize commonly used statistical measures such as mean, median, p-value, standard deviation, confidence interval, odds ratio hazard ratio, relative risk ..etc.
2. Interpret and understand frequently reported figures and charts such as forest plot, area under the curve ..etc.
3. Develop a structured approach of simple 5 steps to analyze any original study.
