There are an estimated two million healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) that occur each year; one in 20 hospitalized persons will contract a HAI (CDC, 2010). And the most common way for transmission of infection is via healthcare workers hands! This session is an introductory course for a series of classes that will focus on Infection Control point of view.

The course will cover some infection control terminology definitions, basic microbiology, and the chain of infection. The course is targeted to all healthcare workers who had either a direct or indirect interaction with patients.
The course will contain pre-assessment and post-assessment, with 5 MCQs that will take usually 5 min.

Objectives

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:
• Define the necessary infection control terminology
• Recognize the types of microbes
• Be familiar with how infection happens

Main theme

This is a recorded course divided into short lectures talking about the basics of infection control. Please note that you will have access to the recorded videos only for 3 weeks
