Fast Track Transition to ICD-10-AM 10TH EDITION, ACHI AND ACS

Introduction

This transition course is offered to ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS experienced and trained clinical coding staff. The program delivers a fast track in an understanding of the journey from 6th edition, including 7th, 8th and 9th edition changes as appropriate, to arrive in 10th edition fully understanding the pathway and inherent assumptions of knowledge that exist in ICD-10-AM 10th edition, ACHI and ACS. Written to support and meet the Saudi Health Council January 2020 statement that coding in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to be completed using ICD-10-AM 10th edition from 1 Jan 2020.

ICD-10-AM and ACHI enable the classification of diagnoses, procedures, interventions and other health problems from narrative, to alphanumeric (ICD-10-AM)/numeric (ACHI) codes, which permits easy storage, retrieval and analysis of the data. A clinical coder is a healthcare worker whose primary responsibility is the classification of Clinical concepts (in admitted episodes of care) into codes. Clinical coders need to have a thorough understanding of the classification as well as a sound knowledge of medical terminology and medical sciences. The aim of clinical coding is to classify clinical concepts into code to accurately reflect the admitted episode of care. Clinical concepts and/or entities include a disease, complication or injury for ICD-10-AM coding and an intervention or procedure for ACHI coding.

Objectives

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1. Identify the essential changes from 6th edition to 10th edition.
2. Use the ICD-10-AM, ACHI AND ACS 10th Edition to.
3. Practice the classification of diagnoses, procedures, interventions and other health problems from narrative, to alphanumeric (ICD-10-AM)/numeric (ACHI) codes.
4. Support Hospitals transition to Activity Based Costing /cost management and resource utilization and efficiency

Main theme

This concise 20 hour transition program delivered over 7 Sessions covers topics in which there has been significant changes within the classification from ICD-10-AM 6th edition (2008) up to and including ICD 10 AM 10th Edition. This includes relevant minor and major changes:
- Australian Coding Standards (ACS), amendments, deletions & additions
- Changes to ICD-10 WHO and ICD-10-AM Classification Coding Conventions
- WHO updates including international special purpose codes
- New or deleted codes
- Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) updates

Certificate of Attendance (21 CME):
The Attendees will be provided a certificate of attendance upon successfully complete the followings:
- Attend 70% of the course live
- Active participation during the sessions, each online session will include short (multichoice) quizzes to be completed during the session
- Answer a short MCQ at the end of the course

Course Tasks/Activities:
- Attendees will be given a timetable of activities/readings to complete on enrollment.
- It is assumed that all attendees have access to ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS in either physical or electronic format.
- Attendees will have the option to purchase 30-day access to EIS ‘TurboCoder’ Coding e-book for PC (not available to MAC users).
