This training program offers a thorough overview of the prerequisites and information required to develop a solid understanding of pharmacovigilance and medication safety.
The Healthcare provider should be able to demonstrate familiarity with the following activities in medication safety:
• Become familiar with CBAHI & JCI international medication/pharmacy-related standards (ex MMU, IPSG).
• Participate in the pharmacy joint commission continues compliance team activities and inspection visits.
• Identify medication management best practices that could potentially be incorporated into practice at the hospital to improve medication safety and quality of care.
• Participate in reviewing/updating medication safety-related policies when applicable.
• Review the pharmacy quality indicators and performance indicators.
• Become familiar with pharmacy-related performance improvement projects/ activities.
• Become familiar with the hospital medication use process and medication safety projects and definitions.
• Participate in ongoing hospital/pharmacy medication projects and activities.
• Review and understand the hospital event reporting system.
• Review and understand the process for implementing corrective actions for medication-related errors at both the individual event level and the aggregate event level and how this information is utilized and communicated to staff.
