First case is a chronic smoker who is distrustful of treatment. In this case the dr must show empathy and gain the trust of the patient. Engaging with patient by greeting him, asking his name his wellbeing and .focus on his issues by active listening and ask him open ended questions about his hesitation in seeking treatment. Explain to him about advantages of seeking treatment and plan his treatment by including his views and beliefs.
In second case of obese person hesitant to commit to a healthy diet , be empathetic and explain the advantages of healthy diet on overall health. Ask open ended questions like why is he or she hesitant. Focus on his points and views. Be non judgemental and offer a simple and effective diet plan by including the patient
