Now you have your research proposal ready for submission for the fund and/or ethical approval.
You have heard they take a long time to return to you and they ask for any changes to be done. What if you know the main ethical points your research should address? It will make everybody's life easier, right?
Dr. Hussein had a master's degree in bioethics from the Univesity of Toronto (Canada) and a Ph.D. in bioethics from the University of Birmingham (UK) and has been a member of national and international research ethics committees (IRBs) for more than a decade.
He will be sharing with you the key ethical issues in the main research designs and what the institutional review boards (IRBs) are looking for.
- Identify the main ethical issues in the main research designs
- Describe the functions of the research ethics committees (aka IRBs)
- Develop an informed consent for the proposed study
- Design a data protection plan that is compliant with the main relevant legislation (namely GRPR and HIPPA)
- Conduct a mock ethical review on proposals similar to their proposals
Students will be introduced to a relatively large volume of terminology that may be new or unfamiliar in a concise way.
Each group of students/trainees will work on the identification of the ethical issues in their respective proposals and are expected to propose solutions to manage them.
The theoretical part will be kept minimum to give more space for hands-on application of the taught ethical principles.
The students need to have some familiarity with the structure of research proposals, This course is not intended to explain research proposals.
Having a research proposal is an asset but not a requirement.
