Complex insulin regimens are widely used in the management of patients with diabetes however, they may be associated with increased risk of hypoglycemia, reduced adherence, and negative impact on patient quality of life.
Despite evolving guidelines emphasizing individualized care and appropriate deintensification, treatment simplification remains underutilized in clinical practice. This educational activity aims to address these gaps by enhancing healthcare professionals’ ability to assess insulin regimen appropriateness and to implement evidencebased simplification strategies when clinically indicated.
Overall Goal
To enhance patient outcomes by improving evidence based decision making related to simplification of complex insulin regimens in diabetes care.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Specific & Measurable:
Identify at least three clinical indicators that suggest a patient may benefit from simplification of a complex insulin regimen by the conclusion of the activity.
2. Achievable & Relevant:
Describe two evidence based treatment simplification approaches consistent with current clinical guidelines during post activity assessment.
3. Skills Oriented:
Demonstrate improved ability to assess the appropriateness of insulin regimen complexity using clinical case scenarios presented during the activity.
4. Time Bound & Practice Focused:
Intend to implement at least one insulin regimen simplification strategy in eligible patients within three months of completing the activity, in accordance with clinical judgment.
